Superseded on 30 July 2026. The How to Rent guide was retired on 1 May 2026 and replaced by a written-information regime under the Renters' Rights Act 2025. The behaviour described below no longer reflects what LetSorted does or what the law requires. Read The How to Rent guide has been retired — your tracker now follows the RRA instead. This page is kept as a record of the change made in June 2026.

Why this mattered at the time

At the time of writing, landlords in England had to provide their tenant with the government's How to Rent guide before the tenancy started. That requirement no longer exists — it was replaced from 1 May 2026 with a written statement of terms for new tenancies, and the RRA Information Sheet 2026 (or a written statement of key terms) for tenancies already running.

Landlords then had to remember to send the guide separately — easy to forget, especially when juggling referencing, contracts, deposits, and compliance documents at the same time.

What changed in June 2026

When you generated or uploaded a tenancy agreement in LetSorted, the system:

  1. Included the How to Rent guide in the signing email — the tenant received a direct link to the government guide alongside the contract
  2. Showed a download card on the signing page — before signing, the tenant saw a prominent link to read the guide on GOV.UK
  3. Auto-marked the compliance record — so no false "missing" warning appeared on the property's compliance dashboard

What applies now

The compliance card is now Tenancy information (RRA) and tracks the document that actually applies to your tenancy: a written statement of terms for tenancies starting on or after 1 May 2026, or the RRA Information Sheet 2026 (or a written statement of key terms, where the tenancy was verbal) for tenancies that were already running.

The full explanation, including the transitional 31 May 2026 deadline that has now passed, is in the newer update.
