Four Corrections You Could Not Make Before

Property names and rent amounts can now be corrected, a re-let property can take a new move-in report, and check-outs open the full checklist again.

What was wrong

Four places in LetSorted recorded something and then would not let you move it. Each was reported by a landlord using the product, and each is now fixed.

They are unrelated bugs with one thing in common: the first version of a record was treated as the final one. That is the wrong default almost everywhere, and the sections below say where it was wrong, what changed, and — in the case of rent — where it was actually right and still is.

The property name

The nickname you give a property could not be changed after you created it, even though the address could. As the landlord who reported it put it: "I still can not change nickname which is odd because I can edit address."

There is now an Edit control beside the property name. The nickname is optional for the whole life of the property, so clearing the field is allowed — do that and the header falls back to the address. Editing the address will not overwrite the name you chose.

Starting a move-in report for a new tenant

A landlord who re-let a property found the previous tenant's signed check-in still sitting on the page, marked as agreed, with no way to start one for the new tenant. She wrote in asking us to delete the old report.

Nothing needed deleting. Move-in reports are now grouped by the tenancy they document. The previous tenant's report stays where it belongs — under their tenancy, still readable — and the option to start a new report appears on the current one. Re-letting no longer removes the entry point.

You can also start a move-in report on an empty property, before the new tenant arrives. That is the ordinary way a check-in gets done, and it now works.

A former tenant's check-in is evidence, not clutter. It should never be the thing standing between you and the next tenancy. See how move-in reports work →

Correcting the rent

If you typed the wrong monthly rent while setting a tenancy up, there was no way to fix it. The control that sets the rent only ever appeared before a rent had been set — the moment one existed, it disappeared. Two landlords wrote in about this in as many days, one of them saying simply: "i can not find anywhere to edit monthly rent amount".

The rent amount can now be corrected from the Rent section of the property. The payment day — the day of the month rent falls due — is corrected in the same place, and it sets the dates of periods still to come rather than moving ones that have already been raised.

The rule, plainly

You can correct the rent while nothing has been confirmed against the tenancy. Once you have confirmed a payment, the amount is fixed.

While it is still correctable, the form tells you what your correction will move before you save it. Upcoming rent is worked out from the figure, so everything still to come updates straight away, and any period already raised that has no payment recorded against it is re-priced to the new amount.

Once a payment is confirmed, that stops. The figure a payment was measured against is part of what the payment means — how much was due, how much was short. Changing it afterwards would rewrite the record of what your tenant paid and what they owed, and there is no honest way to do that from here.

This is a constraint, not a feature. It protects the record, and it will get in your way on the day you meet it.

If the rent needs to change after that point, email [email protected] and we will sort it out with you. There is no self-service route for a rent change with an effective date — that has not been built yet, and we would rather tell you than leave you hunting for it.

The check-out after ending a tenancy

Ending a tenancy and recording a voluntary check-out dropped you into an old photo-only form: no room-by-room checklist, and none of the condition you recorded at check-in. That is the one inspection whose entire purpose is comparing the two.

Check-outs now open the full checklist with the check-in condition alongside, the same way a scheduled inspection does.

What you need to do

Nothing. No existing record changed when this shipped — property names, rent figures, move-in reports and completed check-outs are all exactly as you left them.

If you have been carrying a wrong rent figure on a tenancy where payments are already recorded, that is the one case the product cannot fix on its own. Email support and we will correct it with you.
